The Media and Democracy Karol Jakubowicz Award in 2018 was shared by:
Maria Nowina Konopka for a monograph entitled „Infomorfoza. Zarządzanie informacją w nowych mediach” [Infomorphosis. Information Management in New Media] (Kraków: Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, 2017) – for an important discussion on new media order and a wide range of media transformation. The Award was granted for innovative contribution to the theory of new media ecology and new media ecosystems.
|Jakub Nowak for a monograph entitled „Polityki sieciowej popkultury” [The Policies of Network Pop Culture] (Lublin: Wydawnictwo UMCS, 2017). The book presents the status of new media as a space for pop culture. The study addresses visibility of online content as well as new patterns of political and civic activity in line with the so-called digital intermediaries.|
|Christian S. Nissen, international media expert and the former Director General of Danmarks Radio (DR) for longstanding achievements in promoting democratic standards in the media. The Executive awarded long-term activities at the international level (Council of Europe, European Broadcasting Union) and Christian Nissen’s latest publication, entitled „Media Freedom Revisited. The Widening Gap Between Ideals and Reality” (chapter in a collective work edited by U. Carlsson „Freedom of Expression and Media in Transition”, Goteborg: Nordicom Publishing House, 2016).|
The Award ceremony took place on June 15, 2018 in Warsaw, during the conference of the European Media Management Association.
